I'm an ERP consultant and technologist based in Dublin. I've spent two decades helping companies make enterprise software actually work — and I take a lot of photographs along the way.
The short version
I work in enterprise software — specifically ERP, the systems that quietly run a company's operations, finance and supply chain. I started out solving these problems for the office-products sector, went on to found and run a software company building ERP solutions for that industry, and today I focus on the hands-on technical side: implementations, integrations, migrations, and untangling the problems other people have given up on.
A little more
I'm drawn to the technical detail most people find dry. A good ERP implementation is part engineering, part diplomacy — and I enjoy both halves. Over the years I've worked across Ireland, Portugal and Sweden, which taught me as much about people and language as it did about software.
Outside work, two things keep me sane. The first is running: I've completed several of the World Marathon Majors, with more on the list. Long-distance running and long software projects turn out to have a lot in common — both reward patience, consistency, and a stubborn refusal to stop at the hard part.
The second is photography. I've been shooting since 2005 and have thousands of frames on Flickr. I don't call myself a professional; I just like paying attention to light, and to places.
